Times When I Had The Most Fun, Most Happiest

I’m at home, I’m reading my library books real good books from a recommended read list off of Lisa Bloom’s book called Think.  But somehow its just not enough I just dread being alone so much.  Its real hard so I find myself pacing around real bored.  I’m folding some long neglected clothes, then I’m listening to the radio which I have tuned to my favorite radio station.  While reading the current book Amazing Grace by Jonathon Kozol which is about families that live in the South Bronx I suddenly remember a time when I was the happiest.  I’ve had few of these, no correction I’ve only had one other happy memory.  But this one stands out. I was 17 a junior in high school and through an essay contest I had won a scholarship to go to Washington D.C. to study how our government works.

I can’t remember if I had to buy my own ticket or not, I think I earned the ticket money through a bake sale or selling chocolate bars.   So from what I remember I was assigned a buddy or partner with whom I shared a seat with on the plane her name was Jeanette.  Jeanette was my classmate at school.  We didn’t run in the same circles, and I don’t think that we were close friends, but she was so nice & sweet.  She always said hi to me in the hallway at school and always had a smile.

Jeanette & I shared a room at a very nice hotel I don’t remember the name but I think it was a Hilton hotel.   I couldn’t have asked for a better roommate.   The hotel room we shared had two big double beds, so it was required that we had to share with two others, for a total of 4 to a room.  My thinking now is this was to save money on the room and when you are getting a free trip this is something that happens.  It is after all a free trip with someone else picking up the cost.

However the two other young women Jeanette & I share the hotel room with were certainly two characters.  Ida & her friend Tracy? (I think that was her name)  had a tremendous sense of humor! They were two of the nicest young women that I ever met.  Ever.  They kept Jeanette & myself laughing hysterically all night long we sure didn’t get much sleep around these two.  They were so mischievous too.  Practical jokes was their forte and they played a lot of them on me & my roommate!  Two of the nicest roommates.  Both were from the Bronx in New York.

To be continued…..read my part two of this true story….I had problems with the typing as the sentences crunched together.
